Can I pay off a charge on my credit card if there is no current balance?

I was already charged( credit limit isn't at max anymore) but just want to pay it down a bit since statement is soon and the charge was a bit high. If not how long does it take for a charge to come up as a current balance|||Yes, you can make a payment. If the payment gets there before the charge, you will have a credit balance. If the charge gets there first, the payment will reduce the amount owed. It works out the same either way.|||Within minutes of making the purchase. They will credit the account. If your account balance is zero and you send money, they will still credit the account in to a negative credit balance.
