Is paying the statement balance on a credit card versus the current balance considered "carrying a balance"?

I just got my card and this is my first bill. I really want to try to pay it off every month. The current balance is only about $12 more than the statement so i was thinking about paying the whole thing. I just wanted to know for future reference? Thank you :)|||Transactions up to the closing date show on this months statement. Transactions after the closing date show on next month's statement and are not due till then. Just pay the balance on the statement.

There is an interest free grace period between the purchase date and the statement due date. This is one of the benefits of using a credit card. Paying the online balance could result in no utilization being reported to the credit bureaus. Credit card only update to the credit bureaus once a month.

The best way to handle that new credit card is to use it for regular purchase, wait for the statement, and pay the statement balance in full every month. This wil build your credit and avoid interest. Keep it simple.
